Cars in German City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
